Book Review: Endlessly

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope you enjoyed your weekend! I'm a little behind on my reviews, but plan on getting caught up today. Today I'll be reviewing, Endlessly, the final book in the Paranormalcy Series by Kiersten White.

Endlessly picks up pretty much where Supernaturally left off. It's pretty much more of the same of the first two books, but without all of the original charm. Many of the characters just fell flat. Maybe Kiersten White ran out of steam by the time she got to the third book?

That's not to say that this book was bad, it wasn't, it just was not as good as the first two. Evie loses some of her spunk and fun in this book. Lend also is a lot less impressive (his romance with Evie too). I continued to like Jack (even after what he did in the second book). Reth was also more interesting in this book. It still was a really quick read. It took me less than 24 hours to read counting sleep time. The story still moves pretty quick like the other books in the series. 

About the storyline: In Endlessly, all of the paranormals start to gather by the pond out in back of Lend's house and around town. They want Evie to help them and send them home by opening another gate before it's too late and one can no longer be opened. Evie, who remembers what happened last time she opened a gate, does NOT want to and refuses. At the same time, someone new has taken over the IPCA and wants Evie either working for them or locked up for good. Raquel seems to be missing too as Evie hopes to get advice from her. Evie and Lend have another obstacle in their relationship. The Dark Faerie Queen is taking more and more human slaves into the faerie realm...let's just say there is A LOT that the author tries to cram into the final book. The book isn't that long either, which causes ALL of the above plot points to be very condensed.

Overall, if you have read the other books in the series and are looking to wrap it up, I would recommend this book. Beyond that I would not. I still look forward to checking out more of Kiersten White's books.

Book Review Supernaturally

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Today I'm going to be reviewing, Supernaturally by Kiersten White. It is the second book in the Paranormalcy series. Find my review of the first book here.

At the end of Paranormalcy, Evie finally gets the normal, ordinary life she has always wanted. In Supernaturally, Evie discovers that being ordinary is kind of boring. She starts to spend her time in class daydreaming about vampires, zombies and other supernatural creatures attacking the class. However, her daydreaming about getting the bad supernaturals is about to come true when an opportunity to work again for International Paranormal Containment Agency comes up. Desperate to break the boredom she agrees.

Working for the IPCA does not turn out like Evie hoped when one mission after another goes wrong. Did Evie make the right choice in going back to the IPCA? Why are all of the paranormals looking at Evie weird? And what is she going to do now that her faerie ex-boyfriend Reth has found her?

I have to say this series and especially Evie has grown on me. Both the first book and this one were very enjoyable, quick reads. In Supernaturally, Evie is finding out that being "normal" is nothing like Easton Heights and can be a little boring, especially since Lend is off at college. Evie spends her time at school, doing homework in an effort to get into Lend's college, and working at the diner to make some money. Shortly into the book, Evie is found by Raquel and given an offer to work as a contract employee for the IPCA. Lend is against this idea, but she agrees to work with them anyways to add some excitement back into her life. She does have two conditions: "One: I am not Level Seven or anything in any system. I am not IPCA. If I don't like a mission, I  don't do it. It's totally my call." Second: "I want my credit card back." Evie also does not want to work with Faeries anymore. This problem is solved with new character, Jack. Jack is a human with the unique ability to travel on the faerie paths from place to place. He doesn't really like to get into how he is able to do that. Read the book and you will find out ;)

I have to say I like Jack. He is a bit mischievous and tends to get into trouble. I can easily picture him doing the things described in the book and Evie trying to keep him out of trouble. She wants to keep Jack and her IPCA life separate from her normal life. 

I know in some cases when there is a trilogy or series of books, the second book just is not as good as the first. I do not think that at all about this series. I like this book just as much as the first one, if not more. I like where the series is going. There is an extra mystery in this novel that really isn't addressed and I'm guessing that's what the third book or at least what part of the third book will be about. 

I'm definitely looking forward to reading more books by Kiersten White.

Book Review: Paranormalcy

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White is the first book in the Paranormalcy series.


In the book you follow Evie. Evie thinks of herself as a normal, human, teenage girl even though she works for, and is the ward of, the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA) and is the only person who can see through paranormal's glamours. She has a mermaid for a best friend, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, and she thinks she might be falling for a shape-shifter. 

Evie has been a ward of the IPCA ever since she was eight. Before that she was bounced around foster care and couldn't remember her parents. 

When the book starts we follow Evie on a standard bag and tag of a vampire. After the paranormal is tagged a Faerie transports Evie back to the Center. As the book progresses, Evie thinks her ex-boyfriend, Remy is trying to harm her and and someone or something is killing off the paranormals without leaving a mark.

I have to say I found this book to be a very easy read and I really liked it. The story moves along at a nice pace. I found myself quickly progressing through the novel whenever I had a spare moment and completed the book in a couple of days. 

I found myself really liking Evie and her perspective. I think the author does a good job of representing a teenage girl who tries to kid herself into thinking she is absolutely normal, but is not. I like the show she is always watching and how excited she gets over normal teenage things, like a locker. I like how the author describes what Evie is seeing through each of the glamours, how each of the paranormals really look. Vampires are NOT pretty or glittery.

It's different from other YA books I've read. The closest thing I can compare it to is an adult novel, First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones, but in that book the main character is an adult and a grim reaper and a little more graphic in the love scene department. But if you like Paranormalcy and think you might like a more adult book, I think you might like First Grave on the Right.
